|  | Conical/pyriform/ovoid/ellipsoid: widest toward the base or middle (cone/pear/egg/ellipse). |  | Fusiform: widest in the middle and tapered toward the apex and base (spindle-shaped). | 
|  | Globular: almost spherical. |  | Obovoid: like an upside down egg - broader above the middle. | 
|  | Cylindrical: round in cross section and not tapered. |  | Slender and cane-like: the stems resemble the cane-like growth of some grasses. |
