1968 - Bachelor of Arts, ANU, in Geography and Teaching.

1972-1973 - Technical Assistant at Herbarium Australiense, CSIRO, Canberra, working under Nancy Burbidge and Hansjoerg Eichler.

1974 - Technical Assistant at Kew Herbarium, UK, for three months.

1975 - Six-month project at Kew working for Robert Meikle on Index Kewensis names.

1976 - Working with Don McGillivray at NSW Herbarium working on Grevillea project.
