    Elliot, Winston Rodger   (1941 - )Rodger Elliot and his wife
    Gwen have been propagating and growing Australian
    plants since the 1950s and
    for the greater part of that
    time were involved in commercial horticulture. They were proprietors of retail and wholesale Australian
    plant nurseries in eastern Melbourne until the end of 1992.
    He has written a
    number of horticultural
    and botanical books and
    contributes to local and
    overseas horticultural publications. He is has been involved in co-ordinating Australian
    plant breeding programs and also a member of the Royal
    Botanic Gardens Board in Victoria. 
In 2001 both he and his
    wife Gwen received Order of Australia awards for their work
    with Australian plants. Rodger's other awards include the
    Australian Institute of Horticulture's Award of Excellence
    for Outstanding Contribution to Horticulture, the
    Australian Natural History Medallion and the Gold Veitch
    Memorial Medallion from the Royal Horticultural Society
    (UK). 
He enjoys photography, especially when the results
    live up to expectations.
    He has had a special interest in cultivars of the Australian flora..
    
      While his wild collections of herbarium specimens is limited, he has contributed to the herbarium of the Australian Cultivar Registration Authority (ACRA) over a period of years.
    Encyclopaedia of Australian plants suitable for cultivation in many parts, by Rodger Elliot and David Jones had already reached 23 editions by 1997, with new editions and a supplement to follow.
